Kirin Narayan�is the author of�Storytellers, Saints, and Scoundrels, Mondays on the Dark Night of the Moon,�the novel�Love, Stars, and All That, and the memoir My Family and Other Saints, published by the University of Chicago Press. A former Guggenheim fellow, she is professor of anthropology at the University of Wisconsin–Madison.

Useful and sophisticated

Very useful book for graduate students/non fiction writers. While giving practical advice and encouraging writing with concrete exercises, the book provides straightforward ideas of anthropological theory. And you also learn about Chekhov!

Alive in the Writing was recommended from an academic viewpoint but it extends far wider than this. Anyone who has a story to tell should have this book. 5 stars.
