About the Author
GLENN PEMBERTON teaches Old Testament at Abilene Christian University, including a popular undergraduate course on Israel's wisdom and devotional literature. Glenn has been a preacher among churches for over twenty years. He earned his PhD from the University of Denver and the Iliff School of Theology, and has published various essays on Proverbs and is author of "Hurting with God" (ACU Press, 2012) and "When God Calls: Will You Trust Me Now?" Glenn and his wife Dana live in Abilene, Texas.

Great Resource

This book is written for undergrad college courses, but it's also a great resource for teachers in the church. It's especially helpful for teachers who are leading class members who may not have a Christian background or who do not yet have a firm grasp on the Old Testament. As is Pemberton's style, the book is very readable and clearly communicates deeper meanings and great insights behind sections or passages we may not have had a full grasp on before. Pemberton uses good humor and fresh images to help us understand the meaning of old texts.
The Dig Deeper prompts at the end of each section are great. Pemberton has unique suggestions for many fields/majors (early childhood education, political science, business students, etc.) that could apply to people in church classes as well.

I was fortunate to use this book in its manuscript form as a "test run" for class; it was a great success. The book does a fine job of stringing together the key stories and concepts of the Old Testament while avoiding excess detail. A perfect text for anyone wanting to grasp the metamessage of the Old Testament.
