Overwhelming in size and content - overused and heavily marked book

This was my first William Blake book. First and foremost, the book was almost falling apart as it was so used and marked and written on the margins all over by the person before me and also the paper seemed old. This book should not have been sold. I think the previous owner wanted to let it go and did not know how as he had, it seems, a strong relationship with this book over the years. I could not look in it as it was overwhelming. I donated it to the local library.

Also, I don't think this is a right book for someone who wants to be introduced to Blake and his poetry. That was another thing. But if the book was new, then I could have returned it. But it was not worth to spend more money to return it.

The Best Edition!

Mr. Keynes' edition of Blake's complete poetry and prose is the one I've used not only at Shimer College, but also in Russia and China when I taught Blake there. Mr. Keynes arranges Blake's writings chronologically. The reader can thus more clearly see how Blake's mythic system evolves. Clarity matters when a reader falls into a universe as visionary and fluid as William Blake's.
Each poem is a like a magical brick in the mystical structure Blake ultimately builds. His work begins in Innocence, a world where science, imagination, love, and wild beasts blithely dance in balance. When the cruelty, greed, and fears of Experience blight the peaceable kingdoms then society and the human soul split into warring factions.
Blake has been called apocalyptic. In his late great prophetic books families, lovers, societies, and the ecosystem fall to bits. But Los, Blake's heroic artist, "keeps the divine vision in times of trouble." Techno-science and institutionalized greed overshadow the earth, but Los keeps on building Golgonooza, the gorgeous city of art which ultimately connects heaven and earth. This can bring Jerusalem (the feminine divine)back into the heart of Albion (the universal humanity). When the feminine divine suffuses masculine power all things coalesce in a cosmic orgasm of art, science, pleasure, and prayer. "There is no body distinct from the soul!" Mr. Blake proclaimed in his Marriage of Heaven & Hell. "Everything that lives is Holy!" cries Oothoon, whose indestructible purity embraces the love that's "free as the mountain wind." She's become a role model for some exuberant Shimer students.
To truly partake of Blake please treat yourself to at least a few of the full-color illustrated editions that are now wonderfully affordable. The Dover editions are a bargain--but I order the Blake Trust (Princeton University Press) editions for my classes as well as Sir Geoffrey Keynes' lovingly edited Complete Writings. Buy this book! It can bring you bliss!

Great ending to series

I liked the first book, but I like this second book even better! Superb ending to the series. Love the story and plot, and the ending was satisfying.

I LOVE THIS SERIES!!!! LOVE. IT.

I LOVE this series. LOVE. IT.

In this installment we get to learn more about Mary, and why she is doing what she is doing. The characters in this book are so fantastic. Even the super creepy ones. I cannot say too much because you should read this one for yourself so you can have a super scary experience...heheh Some one else might read this and think "she was off her rocker it's not that scary"....well to me it was!

I love reading scary books, they just make me happy. I know I have said that before, and I know people will think that is weird, but it does. I love the thrill that comes from reading a scary book.

The thought of Bloody Mary in the mirror is scary, but having her outside of the mirror is a far scarier idea. I love the connections that are brought to light in this book. I love how we get to read more "letters" from the past. I really like it when books connect the past with the present.

There is so much going on in this book. Everyone is fighting for their life...no one is safe. Mary is every where. Reading this book kept me on my toes the whole time. The author does a great job of making you feel like you need to investigate every noise that happens in the house at night, while not wanting to move for fear it may be "something"...hehe

Jess is more annoying in this installment than she was in the first book. She is selfish, and just plain stupid. In the midst of a crisis she is not someone you want to have with you. Shauna and Kitty on the other hand know how to stick together and fight.

Mary is just plain creepy. CREEPY. The author does a great job describing everything without getting to wordy. I have to admit a few times while reading I was so engrossed in the book that my heart was beating fast, my hands started sweating, and any movement in my house made me jump. It was FANTASTIC.

If you like thrillers this is a great series to read!!!

What you reap is what you sow

Frankly speaking, i think the first series is way better than the second one although it gives a clearer view on why Mary became what she is and who drove her to it. I felt a lot of sympathy for her even though i don't agree with what she is doing. The pace for the second series is quite slow and boring in the first few parts, which i think the author can do without much of it. I had to drag myself through most of it to get to the thrilling and exciting part, which is in the last few chapters.

This is a book that educate readers on evil and cruelty begets the same thing back and only kindness prevail. Perhaps it's because of what the author herself have went through in her personal life, which she mention in the Acknowledgements section. If only Mary Worth circumstances were met with more kinder people, she wouldn't have been where she is, having the need to get revenge. Tolerating any sort of cruelty certainly have its limit. Will look out for her new book in the future.

About the Author

Peter J. Blau, PhD, is currently the co-editor-in-chief of Wear journal and a consultant in tribology. He earned BS and MS degrees in metallurgy and materials science from Lehigh University (Bethlehem, Pennsylvania) and a PhD in metallurgical engineering from The Ohio State University (Columbus). His professional career began as a coinvestigator under NASA’s lunar sample examination program. Since then, he has spent nearly 40 years in basic and applied research and has held positions at the U.S. Air Force Materials Laboratory, the National Institute for Standards and Technology, the U.S. Office of Naval Research, and Oak Ridge National Laboratory. A long-standing contributor to the International Conferences on Wear of Materials, he is a past conference chair and editor of several proceedings volumes. In 2011, the Wear of Materials Steering Committee established the Peter J. Blau Best Poster Award to be presented at each conference. Dr. Blau’s work has earned his election as a fellow of three societies: ASM International, ASTM International, and the STLE. He also coholds several patents and R&D 100 Awards. In addition to this book, Dr. Blau has authored or coauthored books on microindentation hardness, friction, and wear. In the early 1990s, he worked with ASM International to develop the first ASM Metals Handbook volume devoted to friction, wear, and lubrication. Since 1979, he has participated in ASTM Committee G02 on Wear and Erosion, serving two terms as its chairman and also as chairman of Subcommittee G02.91 on Terminology. In addition, he has led and participated in the development of four standard test methods. Dr. Blau served as leader of the Tribology Research User Center at Oak Ridge National Laboratory and as a principal investigator for more than 26 years. Since leaving Oak Ridge National Laboratory in 2013, he has been active in technical editing, writing, and consulting.

This book is a wonderful guide for both mothers and for photographers with lots of helpful tips on how to photograph mothers as well as a great reminder for mothers on how to get in the picture with their families and not feel uncomfortable!

The entire book is filled with concrete advice, lessons and suggestions for photographing the special bond between moms and their children. Learn hands-on techniques for photographing moms who are pregnant, in labor, delivering, recovering from birth, loving on their children and more. Beautiful addition to my library.

Photographer or not, this one's a keeper!

I read through this book from cover to cover as soon as it arrived and I've done it two more times since then! You don't need to be a photographer to appreciate the photos in this book! If you are a photographer (or are aspiring to be one), you'll find this book to be one you'll keep coming back to for advice and inspiration. Caitlin takes the reader from pregnancy to heirloom photography in one beautifully written book. In one word: stunning.

Lacks necessary substantive research

While many of the religions covered were sufficiently dissected given the constrained length of each article, some were very crudely covered and contained either direct fallacies, sloppy half-truths, or assortments of each.

A work of this sort needs to treat each tradition covered with a thoroughness that is not present in some of the included articles.

inaccurate for my religion

I picked up this book at Barnes and Nobel's and of course turned to my religion to see what was said. I was disappointed. I feel that if you choose to include a religion on a book like this, you should do your homework. I'm one of Jehovah's Witnesses and for the most part the book was accurate. The error that was made was quite obvious. Anyone can find out what we believe at jw.org. I now have my doubts as to whether or not the entire book is accurate. The book stated that Jehovah's Witnesses believe in the rapture which is untrue. It also stated that we believe all Jehovah's Witnesses will go to heaven - which we do not. Had the author asked any one Jehovah's witness to proof read their text they would have immediately spotted the error and it could have been corrected.
