About the Author

James Moore is the co-author of Bush’s Brain: How Karl Rove Made George W. Bush Presidential, a New York Times best-seller, and has co-written two other books. Published in the LA Times, Boston Globe, Salon, and Dallas Morning News, Moore has received an Emmy, the Edward R. Murrow award, and been named Best Reporter in Texas by Associated Press, UPI, and the Houston Press Club. He lives in Austin, Texas.

Political consultant Jason Stanford has worked on more than 200 campaigns in 41 states. His clients have included 25 members of Congress, three governors (two in Texas), and the AFL-CIO. Funny, but frightening.

Molly Ivins used to call Texas "Mississippi with good roads."
Jim Moore and Jason Stanford describe Rick Perry trying to sell
even the roads, along with most everything else.

And they paint a depressing picture of what the country would look like
under a Perry presidency.

Paints a disturbing picture

The authors have done a good job of giving me nightmares of a Perry presidency. I will definitely be sending the bill for my sleeping pills directly to one of them...

In all seriousness, the authors have struck an interesting balance between having a great deal of respect for Perry's intellectual bona fides and at the same time eviscerating the positions he has come to over time. From tracing his early roots in politics as a part-time dirt farmer cum state legislator all the way through his seduction by the wealthy and powerful, the tale is spun of a political opportunist riding a wave of good fortune and lucky timing to where he is today.

You can tell that the bulk of the book was written before his disastrous debate flub of November 9, 2011 - a date that will forever live in political infamy - and yet, the well positioned forward makes a strong case that this is still required reading for anyone seriously following the 2012 GOP primary race. As those of us who follow this sport closely know without question, anything can happen in Iowa, New Hampshire and S. Carolina.

And Rick Perry is certainly not counting himself out yet...

When I first cracked Jim Moore's "Bush's Brain", I knew it was something special. Here was someone who knew his subject and wrote about it in a way that took us well beneath the sound bytes and behind the curtain to understand the man who was the Presiden't most trusted advisor. And so it is with Adios Mofo. Here is a step by step deconstruction of another Texas governor with sights on the highest office in the land. It's the kind of scrutiny we should be giving anyone who wants the job.

Jim Moore and Jason Stanford do their homework, with the special focus that journalists who live and work in the State that Perry runs bring to the task. Like the good reporters they are, they lay the facts bare and let us draw our own conclusions. And like "Bush's Brain", "Adios Mofo" becomes a page turner that is hard to put down.

When its owner shows up to claim it, the Kendrills refuse to release it. When Hogman again attempts to reclaim the animal, he kidnaps Alex's cat, Pete. His family then sets out to locate the feline and prove that the man is involved in illegal trapping. Kehret has a unique writing style, and the text includes long stretches of story narrated by Pete. Some of these scenes are deliciously snarky, with the cat looking up words in the dictionary that start with the letters c-a-t and giving a detailed description of coughing up furballs. The technique is also effective when he describes what happens to him during his kidnapping. Despite major holes in the story's internal logic, young fans of Spy Cat (2002) and Stranger Next Door (2001) will enjoy watching the cat expedite Hogman's apprehension while grousing that his human associates are too dim to realize that he's trying to communicate with them. A gripping story for all animal lovers.

Pete, the cat, has helped to write another good story. This time he helps a pig in trouble. Pete understands what his humans are saying but is not pleased that they never seem to listen to him. If you like a well-written story, this one's for you.

Fun and Suspense for a developing Mystery Fan

We had to find a Mystery book for my 4th grader's book report and we discovered Pete! He is the main character of a series of books by Peg Kehret, and he is a cat with attitude! As the story is told, it is punctuated with Pete's personal views and comments which had my daughter laughing and running to us to read her favorite parts aloud! She loved this book and we have bought more in the series! Pete will appeal to girls and boys!

My son loved it!

I bought my son a Pete the Cat book at a local bookstore. It was such fun that he wanted more. I immediately ordered the others here. We both enjoyed reading the book. He likes me to read him a chapter or two at bedtime each night even though at 8 he is an excellent reader on his own. Pete the detective cat is great fun. I hope there are more of this series in the works.

Everyone once in a while you come across an author that changes everything for you, for me that has been Shayne McClendon. Shayne possesses a skill and talent that you rarely see in today's romantic writing scene. Honestly, I can't get enough. Her words are full of life, and love and beauty of spirit. Her characters are people you want in your life for real. Read and experience it for yourself in Madison and Alexander's story. A dramatic tale of tragedy and simple human kindness and never giving up. Read this, read The Barter System, read Completely Wrecked. You'll see.

Shayne's ability to get you right into the heads and hearts of her characters is nothing short of amazing. Every time I read another one of her books I'm absolutely floored at the emotions she pulls from me. I keep thinking it won't happen again... and again I find myself with a glass of wine, some chocolate and a huge box of tissues.
Take the time, read ALL of her works. You will not regret it.
